Organized jointly by GWP-Med and the Lake Ohrid Watershed Committee, with the support of GEF IW:LEARN Activity D2, the International Roundtable will address issues of integrated management of lake basins and the linkages to connected river basin, groundwater and coastal management. The overall aim is the promotion of cooperation for the management of the transboundary water bodies of the South Western Balkan Peninsula region.

The Conference aims to contribute to the implementation of the Mediterranean Component of the EU Water Initiative (MED EUWI), which is led by Greece since 2003, and its ‘Joint Process’, by reviewing recent progress within the main parallel on-going Initiatives and Processes in the Mediterranean, related or focusing on water issues and discussing further strategic steps.
The Conference will be organized by Greece (Hellenic Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works and Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs), in cooperation with the European Commission, the ‘Euro-Mediterranean Information System on Know-How in the Water Sector’ (EMWIS) and the ‘Regional Monitoring and Support Unit’ (RMSU) of the MEDA-Water Programme of the EC. Technical support will be provided by the MED EUWI Secretariat, facilitated by GWP-Med.
