The 3rd International Conference “AQUA 2008” on Water Science and Technology with emphasis on water & climate was held on 16-19 October 2008, in Athens, by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Dpt.
GWP-Med, with its capacity as the MED EUWI Secretariat, organised a Consultation Event on Household Affordability Assessment of Water Tariffs on 21st July 2008 in Cairo, Egypt, within the framework of the MED EUWI Water Policy Dialogue in Egypt.
The 5th Conference of the Water Directors of the Euro-Mediterranean and South-Eastern European Countries took place in Athens, 21-22 July 2008.
A Capacity Building Workshop on "Integrated Management of Shared Lakes Basins", was organised in Ohrid FYR Macedonia, 16-18 July 2008 by the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med) and the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO/ECSDE)
The Conference of the Water Directors of the Euro-Mediterranean and Southeastern European Countries that was held in Bled, Slovenia, on 10-11 December 2007, is the fourth such meeting in sequence.
The “Nostrum-Dss & INECO Joint Event” was successfully held on the 25 Oct. 2007, Larnaca, Cyprus.
A large number of EU project coordinators, researchers, and representatives of relevant International Institutions (i.e. MED-EUWI, GWP-Med, DFID, CEDARE, Cap-Net UNDP, EC-DG EuropeAid, ICS-UNIDO), including European Commission representatives participated to exchange scientific knowledge and project results on different topics in the domain of water resources management in the Mediterranean Region.
GWP-Med announces the opening of a position as Communication- Administrative Officer at their headquarters in Athens, Greece.

The 'Workshop on IWRM in Libya: Current Status and Way Forward, demonstrated by national, regional and international experiences’, took place on 11 and 12 April 2007, in Tripoli.
The Workshop was hosted by the Libyan General Water Authority (GWA) with the support and collaboration of UNEP through its Collaborating Centre on Water and Environment (UCC-Water), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Water Facility (AWF) and the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med).

Following up the commitment of all the Euro-Mediterranean Partners to "endorse a feasible timetable to de-pollute the Mediterranean Sea by 2020", the European Commission launched the 'Horizon 2020' initiative (Cairo, November 2006) that aims to tackle the top pollution sources of the Mediterranean by the year 2020.

The overall objective of the Working Group on Shared Water Resources Management is to promote synergies between competent EU and non EU partners of the Mediterranean and SEE region and to assist in the formulation of a common approach on key aspects of joint management of shared surface and ground water resources.

Integrated management of groundwater resources is a challenge of particular importance in the region, especially in the arid lands. A 3-days Training Course on Groundwater Assessment and Development is organized from 13 to 15 December 2006, in Hurghada, Egypt, by CEDARE, GWP-Med, UNDP and the Eastern Desert Project.
The training is designed to provide water professionals with hands-on experience in applying state of the art techniques for groundwater exploration and development. Instructors are affiliated with Cairo University, Western Michigan University and CEDARE. The Training will be conducted in English and Arabic.
